Design trends 2026: what your website needs

Most “trends” are decoration. A few are shifts in how people and machines read pages. Adopt the second group. Ignore the first unless it serves the brand.

Worth doing this year

  • Editorial type: a real serif for headlines, a clean sans for UI. It reads as London, not as a generic SaaS template.
  • Quiet luxury palettes: navy, paper, one metal (gold, copper). High contrast, not grey-on-grey.
  • Answer-first layout: the first screen states the offer, the place, and the next step. AI overviews scrape this; humans skim it.
  • Performance as craft: empty space is cheaper than stock video. Fast is the new premium.
  • Honest photography: real premises and people beat unsourced “diverse office” clichés — or use clearly decorative stock, not fake staff.

Worth skipping

Parallax for its own sake, 3D heroes that tank LCP, chatbot widgets that cover the CTA, and infinite scroll on service pages. Dark mode is nice if you maintain two palettes; it is not a ranking strategy.

AEO is a design trend whether you like it or not

Pages with definition boxes, FAQs, and lists get cited more often in AI answers. That is a layout decision as much as a content one. We build it into website design and SEO. The longer checklist is in best practices 2026.

If your site still looks like 2019 (full-width slider, tiny type, no tap targets), start a redesign rather than adding another animation. Talk to the studio.
